Best Buy Moving in on Gamestop

Very timely article by Matt Peckham given my last post. I came across by chance. I didn’t notice until I got to the bottom it was him. I do follow his Twitter feed (twitter.com/game_on). More commentary on digital distribution for video games at the bottom of this article.

It’ll be interesting to see how this pannes out. Personally, I prefer to buy games at Game Stop because there’s something about going into a game store and being in that environment and talking to sales associates who are excited and knowledgable about games. The game purchasing experience in Best Buy is horrible. You have to find someone to unlock the cage, you’re never sure they’re going to have more obscure titles on launch day (MotoGP series etc…) and there’s no sense of community. Sometimes you find games in giant plastic sercurity cases with only a black and white photo copy of the game’s front cover inside as the only thing to look at or examine. No back cover info and no fun. If the game is in a cage, then you have to read them while a guy with the key stands over you…
